Swimming Terms & conditions
- The important information below relates to the swimming lessons that we offer at our leisure sites. Please read these before starting your course.
- All customers require a FREE ‘Just do more’ leisure card to join our swimming programme.
- All lessons must be paid for via Direct Debit which should be set up prior to the first lesson. The initial payment will include a pro-rata payment.
- Once a Direct Debit has been set up, no refunds can be made unless absence is caused by a serious illness which must be confirmed by a doctor’s note.
- Lessons are not transferable from one swimmer to another unless authorised by an officer.
- The Council reserves the right to cancel a lesson or course at any time.
- The Council will use reasonable endeavours to provide the same instructor for each lesson. However, relief instructors may be used without prior notification.
- Instructors may change between each stage of lessons.
- Each swimmer must register with the instructor at the start of each lesson.
- Registration and administration time is included in each lesson.
- If a swimmer has a medical condition, disability or any additional needs, this must be stated on the enrolment/registration form. Any changes to a swimmer’s circumstances must be communicated to the leisure centre at the earliest opportunity to ensure that up-to-date records are maintained.
- The use of camera or video photography or mobile phones is strictly prohibited at all times within the leisure centre, unless prior approval has been sought.
- Swimmers should only change in the changing rooms provided.
- For health and safety reasons long hair should be tied back or a swimming cap worn and jewellery should not be worn during lessons.
- All under 8’s must have a responsible adult that remains in the leisure centre at all times.
- The Council will not under any circumstances, accept responsibility or liability in respect of any damage to or loss of any goods, articles or property of any kind brought into or left at the leisure centre.
- During the standard operation of the swimming lessons, patrons wishing to watch family or friends who are participating must do so only in the designated spectator areas of the facility. Parents of swimmers should never distract the swimmers or the instructor during a lesson.
- Queries regarding the lesson programme or an individual swimmers progress can be viewed by registering for our FREE homeportal.
- Places will initially be allocated to those swimmers already on the lesson programme. To secure a place for the next stage on the allocated class, the customer must keep up to date with all Direct Debit payments and not be in arrears.
- All swimmers attending our lessons will receive FREE swimming through the duration of their time with us. Terms and Conditions apply.
- Class numbers are restricted and set by the Council to ensure a quality teaching environment and are based on the STA Code of Practice.
- The Council reserves the right to only accept a swimmer being taught at the level appropriate to them.
- The Council reserves the right to cancel a stage and refuse to re-book a swimmer onto a stage if the swimmer or their parent displays unacceptable or inappropriate behaviour, including failure to comply with these terms.
- If a swimmer or the parent of a swimmer has chosen the wrong stage for the ability of a swimmer and an alternative class is offered and not accepted a refund will not be given.
- Swimming ability and speed of progression will vary depending upon the swimmer.
- The lesson programme is typically a 48 week continuous programme with a two week break at Christmas, one week break at Easter and one week break throughout the summer holidays.
- New swimmers can join a course at any point subject to availability and swimmer ability.
- Swimmers who have achieved all of the outcomes within their current swimming stage will be moved onto the next level/stage at any point throughout a course, subject to availability.
- Programmed swimming lessons which fall on a Bank Holiday will be re-scheduled for a morning session, normally between 9am to 12noon. Customers will be notified of class time changes, through internal posters at reception and our social media outlets.
- When badges have been awarded by the swimming instructor they will be available along with certificates to purchase from reception.
- Swimming lessons can be frozen for complete months at a time. A doctors note or similar needs to be provided at the time of freezing.
- Any missed Direct Debit payments must be paid within 14 days of the collection failing. If it is not paid, your child will be removed from swimming lessons and their place may be taken. If a Direct Debit is cancelled at the bank, your child will be removed from the lessons immediately.
- Please ensure you keep Reception updated with any changes to your Direct Debit details.
- In order to cancel your lessons; please email your cancellation request to: DD.cancellations@ne-derbyshire.gov.uk
- No make up lessons will be offered under any circumstances.
- Where adverse weather results in the cancellation of lessons then a refund/credit will be applied to your next available direct debit. However, if the centre is open and the lessons go ahead then no refunds/credits will apply should you not attend.
- Using your personal information. Your personal information will be used to process your application for swimming lessons membership and to contact you about this. We may also contact you by post or email occasionally to ask about the quality of our leisure service. If you have consented to receive other leisure information then we will process your personal information for that purpose too.
